Wisteria in bloom

October 19, 2019

Our wisteria is almost in full bloom now. It sits over the pergola in our half acre park area of our property and looks amazing and smells amazing too. This is a great place to be during spring and summer in our garden. And we love to hold garden parties out here - although probably not this year as we have much work to do in the garden. Lots … [Read more...] about Wisteria in bloom

At last! Back in the garden

September 28, 2019

It's been ages since I spent some worthwhile time in the garden - at least 'worthwhile' to me. We didn't do a lot through winter and then towards the end of winter, went overseas on a holiday for a month. Came back last weekend to find our garden waking up, flowers everywhere, and weeds too :-( But also the trees showing new life with leaves and … [Read more...] about At last! Back in the garden

International Bee Day 20 May

May 20, 2019

Did you know today is International Bee Day?  It was a blue banded bee that got me into nature photography nearly 10 years ago - after we shifted to our current home here in the Dandenong Ranges. Since then I've been learning a few things about bees but still have much to learn. Did you know there are around 1500 species of native bees in … [Read more...] about International Bee Day 20 May

The importance of composting naturally

May 12, 2019

Here's a great article for you all by Mackenzie Kwak. An inspirational post about composting naturally at home. I learnt about it via Facebook. If you hate leaves lying around at this time of year, well, you can put them to good use.  You might think you are already but you should read this article anyway. How to compost like a forest. We do … [Read more...] about The importance of composting naturally

Planting Grasses in the Paddock

April 15, 2019

It's been months since we've been able to do any new planting in the paddock. We've just kept the existing plant life alive during the hot and dry summer and much of our Autumn, to date, has been dry too. We did have a lovely almost 20mm of rain nearly two weeks ago but that's all. I shared the post below from the Australian Butterfly … [Read more...] about Planting Grasses in the Paddock

Sunflowers in Summer

February 1, 2019

(Click on each image to view larger) How did it get to be the end of January already? It seems we wait all year (or almost) for Christmas and the holiday break, times with family and friends that we've not caught up with all year and then a new year begins and the cycle starts all over again. Important to spend more time with loved ones - as … [Read more...] about Sunflowers in Summer

Late January in the garden

January 28, 2019

This January has been very dry - even drier than last year's January. Hoping we get some serious rain soon. They were forecasting up to 15mm for this week a few days ago but that's dropped considerably and we're not holding our breath that we'll still be getting rain when Wednesday and Thursday do arrive. Just hot weather. Great for those who love … [Read more...] about Late January in the garden
