Silver Birch Beauty

October 20, 2021

We planted our silver birch copse January 2017 and it really has come along very well. The birds love the trees, many small ones are in there regularly but also larger ones, like Crimson Rosellas. Just loving seeing the trunks develop - we lopped lower branches to raise the canopy on them. Under the trees we have planted spring bulbs, … [Read more...] about Silver Birch Beauty

Eastern Spinebill and Kniphofia

June 14, 2021

Late last year I invested in a new camera. Was looking for something more lightweight and I'd been hearing about an amazing bridge camera that Nikon had brought out. I met up with a photography friend to give their version (one model earlier) a tryout and was suitably impressed. Planting Strelitzia

August 3, 2020

Our neighbour, Mark, very kindly gave us some Strelitzia Reginae that he'd dug up.  I wasn't sure exactly where I'd put them but was very grateful for the offer, and he put them over the fence for me yesterday. Been a little while since I've reported on how our paddock garden is going. We've had to stop planting since around December and have spent many evenings watering new plants.  Thankfully, during January, we've had a fair amount of rain - a lot more than last year, and the highest January rainfall since we started recording it back in 2014. This has … [Read more...] about Our Paddock Garden update

Planting Grasses in the Paddock

April 15, 2019

It's been months since we've been able to do any new planting in the paddock. We've just kept the existing plant life alive during the hot and dry summer and much of our Autumn, to date, has been dry too. We did have a lovely almost 20mm of rain nearly two weeks ago but that's all. I shared the post below from the Australian Butterfly … [Read more...] about Planting Grasses in the Paddock
