Planting Strelitzia

August 3, 2020

Our neighbour, Mark, very kindly gave us some Strelitzia Reginae that he’d dug up.  I wasn’t sure exactly where I’d put them but was very grateful for the offer, and he put them over the fence for me yesterday. After reading up on them, we decided beside our Billabong would be the perfect location.  And, as we have forthcoming rain later today it was a good reason to get them in the ground now!

Graham and I work quite quickly together, I cut back the strappy leaves on the 6 plants and carried them to the spot while Graham used his hoe to clear the ground – really good soil in this spot. They’ll be above the billabong, next to the deck where we can sit, and they’ll make a great backdrop visually with a splash of colour when they flower. Can’t wait for them to settle in and grow – we’ve got several days of rain coming so now is ideal for planting them. And it was just what we needed to prompt us to get outside and get some fresh air.
