Went out for the purpose of finding small things in the garden late this afternoon. So glad I did. Saw all sorts of insects I hadn't noticed before, some new flowers popping up and also this beautiful Spotted Sedge Skipper Butterfly - quite small and quite beautiful, don't you think? I love seeing butterflies in Summer in our garden and love … [Read more...] about Seeing the little things

When a friend comes to help
We had a friend come over to work in our garden early in the week. So nice of her to do that - it is a big garden and will take us a long time to achieve what we want done, so every little bit of help is gratefully appreciated. Our family of daughters have their own families and homes to look after so it's just Graham, me and our cat, Toki, who … [Read more...] about When a friend comes to help
Lilies in flower

This one I saw yesterday in our vegetable garden, enjoying the comfrey flowers. So thrilled to see them back again! … [Read more...] about The blue banded bees are back!

They hatch in citrus trees and this one was hovering … [Read more...] about Dainty Swallowtail in my garden
Bird attractors

In this picture is an Eastern Spinebill, which is a honeyeater, collecting nectar from a callistemon. Probably the closest we have to a hummingbird, here in Australia. Not an easy shot to get but it was fun trying. … [Read more...] about Bird attractors
We have ducklings!
We got the biggest surprise in our bush paddock garden recently. I went outside to do a bird count for the latest Aussie BirdCount and ventured down the hill to look at our plants and watch for birds. Imagine my surprise when I saw some ducklings with two adult Australian Wood Ducks. Now, we'd had the Wood Ducks hanging around for a few weeks … [Read more...] about We have ducklings!
