We planted our silver birch copse January 2017 and it really has come along very well. The birds love the trees, many small ones are in there regularly but also larger ones, like Crimson Rosellas.
Just loving seeing the trunks develop – we lopped lower branches to raise the canopy on them. Under the trees we have planted spring bulbs, hellebore, violets, sword ferns and a few other things, but do struggle with unwanted Arum Lilies that have self populated there – my husband regularly works at chopping them back. Digging them up would mean disturbing the roots of the trees so we just chop them back for now, in the hope, that over time, they will diminish.
