I mentioned in my last post that I’d gotten to visit two gardens while doing the gardening workshop with Michael McCoy.
The first of these gardens is the Kyneton Old Rectory. All you see from the outside is a fence and hedge but wow! when you get inside, it’s really amazing. Hedges outline different garden rooms and, as Michael said to us at the course, each room was suitable for a different sized party of people. Small intimate rooms for small groups, medium sized room for around 30-40 people and a much larger one that would allow a good 60-80 people to mix and mingle. Lots of lawns, hedge walls, places to sit, places to just enjoy, a splash of colour here and there with some ornamental plants, but not many.
It is a guest house and available if you’re ever heading that way for a break. Michael was teaching us about structure and how trees and shrubs are used for canopy (ceiling) and walls. This is a good demonstration of that. You can find them here if you’re on Instagram. And check out the garden plan here – love the birds eye view. Fantastic. Clearly this is a garden that needs regular maintenance and it is a well cared for garden. Hope you like the pics!
