Gardening Project Week 6

August 21, 2017

Day 22 of work being done: 30 June 2017

With all the rain that came at the end of June there was very limited access to the project with heavy equipment. Sadly our landscapers went off and worked on another project elsewhere because they couldn’t do a lot of earthworks here on our own property. The billabong didn’t take long to fill back up again. Thank goodness for the overflow sump they dug a couple of weeks previously. While the rain has slowed down the work it did help us to see what was needed for the wet periods – which we wouldn’t have been able to anticipate in the warmer dry weather. So probably a blessing in disguise, even if it did hold things up.

The water has been travelling via both north and south creek beds (the north showing above) via rainwater tank overflows and stormwater that comes in off the street.  Would be good if the council had a stormwater drain before our driveway, but they don’t. So we do get a lot of water pouring off the road down our driveway, into a drain that runs under our tennis court and out through pipes leading to the paddock. We’ve now redirected those pipes into the north creek bed, which has helped with an issue our neighbour had, whereby a shed he had on the other side of our fenceline would often flood from this stormwater flow in times of heavy rain.

Not much heavy duty stuff could be done but they could, at least, start marking out where all the other paths would go. Graham and I followed along to check these out to ensure they were where we’d like them to be.

I do so love the reflections in the water. An added bonus I had forgotten we’d achieve.
