Happy Little Wrens

July 27, 2020

I love watching the Fairy-wrens in our garden and hearing their call. They're such tiny little birds and move ever so quickly. Their official name is Superb Fairy-Wren. The males, when in breeding colours, are a beautiful blue and black and the females are brown with a red ring around their eyes. The young are speckled in colour till they grow … [Read more...] about Happy Little Wrens

Flowers in the Winter

July 12, 2020

It's mid winter here in Melbourne Australia and, for many people, it means a drab garden, not much colour here or there. Leaves have fallen, trees are bare, and not a lot of growth is happening. BUT, there are a lot of plants out there that do flower this time of year. Over time, my husband and I have worked towards ensuring we have flowers all the … [Read more...] about Flowers in the Winter

Silver Birches and Catkins

June 28, 2020

As yet, I've not found out why some have them and the others don't. I do know that male catkins come out in autumn and stay throughout winter … [Read more...] about Silver Birches and Catkins

Autumn Colour Almost Gone

June 27, 2020

Our Autumn colour is almost all gone, but we do have this lovely view in our driveway for now - but probably not for much longer. The sunlight shining through the cold air, producing a soft mist was quite attractive. That's the Liquidamber at the top of the driveway on the left. In the middle is our willow tree, highlighted by the winter setting … [Read more...] about Autumn Colour Almost Gone

Amazing Salvia Colour

May 27, 2020

The Salvia is looking amazing in our back paddock right now. In fact, it has done so for weeks and weeks. It just keeps on giving. We thought that all the pollen must be gone by now and yes, the Eastern Spinebills and bees are constantly there every day. Mind you, there is a mass planting of this particular Salvia Leucantha. It looks stunning.  The … [Read more...] about Amazing Salvia Colour

Staying home – because we have to

March 28, 2020

What a strange world we're living in, at the moment. Enforced requirements to stay home, unless we absolutely have to go out. It was never more than now, that I have been so very grateful for having a garden to spend time in, knowing we don't have to go outside our own gates. The smell of freshly cut lawn, thanks to my husband, the sound of the … [Read more...] about Staying home – because we have to
